  • Day 1: Whale Swim from Tongatapu

Stop At: Tonga Travel Troupe, Nuku'alofa, Tongatapu Island Tonga
You will be picked up from your hotel at approx. 8am and taken to the Wharf for your safety briefing.

The boat will travel at a slow, calm and unhurried pace at 8 knots an hour. With patience and a slow relaxed pace, we minimize disturbance to the whales. Once the whales are sighted, it may take an hour to two hours, to slowly follow at a safe distance. We are conscious that whales do not feel harassed or disturbed so it gives them time to adjust to our approach.

The humpback whales can easily swim fast away from us, but our crew’s experience takes time to build up the whales’ curiosity and trust, so instead of swimming away from us, the whales actually stop most times, turn and approach us.When the weather is sunny, and sea conditions calm with low wind speeds, successful encounters are extremely high.

You can choose to swim with the whales, OR you can watch from the boat if you’d prefer. Time permitting of course, you’ll be able to dive into the location’s crystal clear waters and explore the fascinatingly gorgeous world beneath our own.

The boat will return by 3pm and you will be transferred back to you town hotel.
    Duration: 6 hours

Stop At: Oholei Beach Resort Faiva Performance, Lavengatonga, Tongatapu Island Tonga
Your air-conditioned transfer will pick you from your hotel at 7pm, arriving before the 8pm dinner to the Oholei buffet dinner show.

The buffet is a Tongan feast with some western favourites too. Whether you are looking for fresh seafood, umu, green salad, suckling pig roasted on a spit, tropical fruits or lu kapapulu (corned beef, onions and coconut cream wrapped in greens and steamed) you will find it at the Oholei feast.

After dinner the experience continues with a floor show in Hina Cave. Enjoy a Faiva performance of many traditional Tongan dances from all over the kingdom. Oholei has a variety of dances from all over Tonga. From the Niuas to Eua, they are all represented.Your host Simana Kami will share the history of the different dances as well as local legends while you enjoy the show. You will be entertained by Oholei's finest local band with a variety of island songs & summer groove flavas!

The show finishes around 10pm and your driver will transfer you back to your hotel.

Drinks: Please note you need cash for drink purchases

Tipping: During the performance it is custom to tip the dancers by going up on stage whilst they perform and sticking notes on their oiled up arms. It is NOT compulsory but you may like to do it and if so it’s handy to have small $2 notes on you.
